Program Description: 

Due to significant progress of knowledge and technology in recent years, dermatology has undergone considerable development. Using laser technology in the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases; changes in disease distribution patterns such as metabolic diseases, infectious diseases, and emerging diseases with various cutaneous pictures and substantial developments in immunology that have a close relationship to dermal diseases, emergence of new methods of diagnosis and treatment, and new pharmaceutical products all made the revision of dermatology curriculum necessary.



At the end of the program learners will be competent in the following skills:

  • Minor surgery
  • Laser therapy
  • Phototherapy management
  • Photodynamic therapy for skin lesions
  • Cryosurgery
  • Cutaneous intra lesion  injection
  • Sterilization process
  • Curettage and cauterization
  • Body hair transplantation
  • Patch test
  • Electrolysis
  • Nail surgery
  • Subcision
  • Chemical peeling
  • Botulinum toxin injections
  • Fillers injection
  • Derm abrasion
  • Sal abrasion
  • Cutaneous grafts less than 1 cm
  • Dermoscopy
  • Tzanck and Pathergy test
  • Mesotherapy
  • Mohs surgery
  • Fat transfer
  • Sclerotherapy
  • Liposuction for lipofilling



      4 years full-time (48Months)

Admission Requirements

General Reguirements: To apply for this program, you will need to fulfill a number of requirements, which can be found in the Graduate Admission Requirements.

Specific Requiremetn: Degree in General Physicians (M.D) or Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) by one of the Iranian or foreign universities.
The eligible candidate should have successfully completed an approved general physician program and should be proficient in English or Persian.


Admission Deadline

Tehran University of Medical Sciences has a rolling application system and reviews student applications all year round.

However, the deadline for the September intake is June 31.

Visiting outpatients, selecting patients, making medical records, and hospitalizing patients, following up with patients who require specialized consultations from other specialized disciplines, educating lower-level students, responding to requested specialized consultations, and performing other measures according to the curriculum

Visiting hospitalized patients, managing hospitalized patients in the ward, performing diagnostic therapeutic procedures at the bedside, educating lower-level students, and performing other measures according to the  curriculum

One month a year in a fixed period and during the course (in total, the residency is 4 months during the course

Participating in procedures in the form of observing, assisting, or performing independently, according to the department’s curriculum

Internal ward (1)

Familiarity with skin presentations in rheumatology patients, familiarity with diagnostic therapeutic procedures for rheumatology patients

Department of Pathology

Becoming familiar with and participating in slide preparation and dermatopathologic diagnoses, slide-reading practice 

4 months

Department of Plastic Surgery,

Reconstructive, and Burns

Being familiar with and participating in skills related to plastic and reconstructive surgery in the curriculum, such as skin cancers and related surgeries, fat transfer, liposuction, and various permissible flaps and grafts

Department of Microbiology

Being familiar with and using methods of identifying skin parasites and fungi

2 Weeks

Laser and phototherapy unit

Laser therapy with different types of devices and using devices for diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases

1 month

Elective department (2)

Residents will perform in an elective department in accordance with the curriculum

1 month


Defense of the dissertation:

Students are required to present and defend their thesis with the approval of faculty committee.
