Erasmus Programs

The MARHABA Project is an Erasmus Mundus initiative aimed at enhancing collaboration between the European Union and countries like Iran and Iraq. Launched in 2014, it focuses on developing the capacity, transparency, and employability of institutions and individuals through mobility and academic cooperation. The project supports the exchange of talented students and staff, promoting intercultural understanding and improving skills and qualifications. By fostering these exchanges, MARHABA contributes to the mutual enrichment of societies and the development of higher education in participating countries.

MARHABA Project provided an opportunity for students of 5 Iranian universities including Amir Kabir University of Technology, Sharif University of Technology, University of Tehran, Iran University of Medical Sciences and Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) to study in European partner universities, with the objective of developing further academic collaboration among EU and Iranian Universities.  Marhaba started on July 2014 and last for 4 continues year. During this project, 125 students were exchanged, 35 from EU to non-EU countries, and 90 from non-EU to EU countries.

Erasmus+ is the European Union’s flagship programme designed to support education, training, youth, and sport across Europe and beyond. It offers opportunities for individuals and organizations to engage in various educational and training activities abroad, promoting learning mobility, cooperation among institutions, and policy development to enhance the quality and inclusiveness of education and training.

The Erasmus+ programme for 2014-2020 had a budget of approximately €14.7 billion. It focused on three key actions: learning mobility, cooperation for innovation, and support for policy reform. During this period, the programme supported over 230,000 projects and nearly 170,000 organizations, benefiting more than 8.5 million participants. It enabled students, trainees, staff, and volunteers to study, train, and gain experience abroad, while also encouraging partnerships between educational institutions, businesses, and other organizations to foster innovation and share best practices.

The Erasmus+ programme for 2021-2027 has a significantly larger budget of approximately €26.2 billion, nearly double that of the previous period. This new phase places a stronger emphasis on social inclusion, ensuring broader participation from diverse backgrounds. It also promotes green and digital transitions, supporting projects that enhance environmental sustainability and digital skills. Additionally, the programme encourages youth participation in democratic processes and civic activities. The global reach of Erasmus+ has been expanded, involving more non-EU countries, and the application processes have been simplified to make it easier for smaller organizations to participate.

In summary, while both periods of Erasmus+ aim to support education, training, youth, and sport, the 2021-2027 programme builds on the successes of the previous phase with a larger budget, enhanced focus areas, and a broader global impact. For more Information, please visit the website of Erasmus+ Programme https://erasmus-plus.ec.europa.eu/
