TUMS Chancellor Meets WFME Representatives
This meeting, at which several high-ranking TUMS officials were present, took place on the last day of the TUMS visit by Dr. Peter Dieter and Dr. Samuel John Leister of the WFME.
After a brief report by Dr. Mirzadeh, Head of the Center for Studies and Development of Medical Sciences Education, who acted as the main contact person for the TUMS guests during their visit, A WFME professor proceeded to present a report as a result of their presence in the self-study audit of TUMS School of Medicine. He praised TUMS for its swift and effective actions regarding the curriculum overhaul at its School of Medicine, stating that the substantial achievements of TUMS in the respective short timeframe is certainly notable.
Emphasizing the honesty and thoroughness of the report, the WFME representatives carried on to discuss the areas which they deemed attention-worthy for TUMS’s incoming accreditation process in the near future.
Further during the meeting problematic areas for the school of medicine were discussed.
Overall impression was that TUMS has a very suitable curriculum designed according to international standards, but implementation is still a work in progress. More formal systems were recommended for ensuring that there is consistency across the blocks with no unnecessary overlaps.
In summary, TUMS was ranked as a suitable medical university, curriculum reform has been implemented incredibly quickly which is highly suitable but there is still a lot work to be done.
In conclusion, Dr. Nekoofar asked for general observations for the entire university. For quality assurance, he went on saying that developing systems is very important and individuals should not become the pillars of the changes. Responsibilities should be dictated clearly to all individuals, he added.
