Tehran University of Medical Sciences & Indiana University, Get Closer to Academic Collaborations

On Sunday, November 6th, 2016 Dr. Nasser Hamed Paydar, Iranian Chancellor of Indiana University (IU) of U.S, had a meeting with Dr. Ali Jafarian, TUMS Chancellor, to discuss the initiation of cooperation between the two universities.

Dr. Kheradmand, vice-chancellor for Global Strategies & International Affairs, Dr. Jalili, Vice-Chancellor for Education, Dr. Nekoofar, Director of International Relations, Accreditation & ranking, and Deans and Vice-Deans for International Affairs of Schools of Medicine, Nutritional Sciences and Dietetics, Rehabilitation, Traditional Medicine, Advanced Technologies in Medicine, and Dentistry were the attendees of this meeting who presented their schools and the related practical potentials for collaboration with IU.

These suggestions were introduced under four main categories namely Education including the scholarships, unique selling points, joint degree programs and establishing new degree programs for international students of TUMS, Research covering the joint research projects and cooperation between the research centers and Second Affiliated Professors under the title of Visiting Professor.

Then, Chancellor Paydar, expressed his appreciation and added that the information that was given in the meeting was very relevant to the purpose of the meeting and it can be a guide toward initiating collaboration in the best possible way.

He also added that “according to the presentations, School of Dentistry, is the best option to start the cooperation from. The same curricula, academic programs, laboratories and centers in Dental School of IU and TUMS School of Dentistry encourage both universities to begin with it”.

In the end of the meeting Chancellor Paydar suggested that a delegation from IU visits TUMS and meets with their counterparts at TUMS to negotiate possible ways of cooperation.

It is worth mentioning that Chancellor Paydar visited School of Dentistry and met with the officials of this school and after that he paid a visit to the Institute for Advanced Medical Technologies prior to the meeting with Dr. Jafarian. “I am very impressed that despite all of the restrictions, Iranian researchers and students could invent all these new devices in this institute” he said.
