TUMS and CCRUM Signed Memorandum of Understanding to Foster Academic Collaboration

On November 20, 2024, the School of Persian Medicine at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) and the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the fields of Unani and Persian medicine. The MoU was signed by Dr. Roja Rahimi, Dean, School of Persian Medicine at TUMS, and Dr. N. Zaheer Ahmed, Director General of CCRUM.

During the signing ceremony, Dr. N. Zaheer Ahmed thanked TUMS and emphasized the importance of studies in Unani and Persian medicine. He highlighted that the Unani Medicine Center in India is taking significant steps to introduce this field into the medical education system by integrating it into their educational curriculum. Dr. Roja Rahimi also underscored the importance of the MoU, discussing the development of technology at Unani research centers and the collaboration’s potential for standardizing and formulating medications. She noted plans for both preclinical and clinical research to evaluate the effectiveness of drugs, as well as an integrated approach to treating diseases, including applications in cancer treatment.

This partnership aims to promote joint research, educational exchanges, and capacity building between the two esteemed institutions. The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation that supports the exchange of information, documentation, and scientific publications. Additionally, it facilitates the exchange of experts to enhance capacity building for both practitioners and students. Through their collaborative research initiatives and educational programs, TUMS and CCRUM aspire to contribute significantly to the global discourse on traditional medicine.
