Short Biography
Dr. Pravit Akarasereenont completed his MD from the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University in 1991, graduating with Second Class Honours. In 1993, he joined the research group of Prof. Sir John Vane, a Nobel laureate, at the William Harvey Institute, University of London, where he earned his PhD in Pharmacology in 1995. Upon returning to Thailand, Dr. Pravit established an inflammation research group at Siriraj Hospital, contributing significantly to the field through numerous national and international publications.
In 2003, Dr. Pravit was appointed Deputy Head of the Center of Applied Thai Traditional Medicine, where he played a pivotal role in advancing herbal medicine research by integrating a reverse pharmacology model. His contributions to the field were further recognized in 2015 when he became involved in the establishment of the metabolomics platform at Siriraj Hospital, subsequently serving as Deputy Head of the Siriraj Metabolomics and Phenomics Center (SiMPC).
In 2017, Dr. Pravit was appointed as the Head of the Siriraj Center of Applied Thai Traditional Medicine (Si-CATTM). His leadership extended further in 2018 when he became the Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Traditional Medicine (WHOCC-TM) at Si-CATTM, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. Currently, he leads the Metabolomics Group in Thai Traditional Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, where he is at the forefront of developing a reverse metabolomics model for Thai traditional medicine research.
Dr. Pravit’s research interests focus on the application of multi-omics analysis in systems medicine, utilizing big data for personalized and precision medicine. He is also pioneering the development of an AI platform for Thai traditional medicine.
