Short Biography
Prof Razak Gyasi is a Research Scientist of Social Gerontology at the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), Nairobi, Kenya, and an Adjunct Professor at the National Centre for Naturopathic Medicine, Faculty of Health, Southern Cross University, Lismore, New South Wales, Australia. He is a visiting Professor at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a Fellow of the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) and the Institute for Research in Africa (IFRA-Nigeria).
Prof Gyasi’s research and publication interests are diverse and broad, focusing on aging epidemiology, social connection, socio-medical gerontology, lifestyle dynamics, and traditional/complementary/ integrative medicine (TCIM) in multilevel social contexts. He is an accomplished researcher with over 155 academic and scientific papers (h index=32, i10 index=69). He has editorial responsibilities as a Senior Associate Editor and Section Editor for Aging & Mental Health. Behavioral Medicine, Archives of Public Health, PLOS Global Public Health, etc.
Stanford University, in collaboration with Elsevier Publishers, has enviably named Prof Gyasi among the world’s top 2% of scientists. As a technical advisor to the WHO Technical Advisory Group on Social Connection, Prof Gyasi is among the top 20 experts in the field. He attends Validation Workshops convened by the African Academy of Science (AAS). He attends high-level national, regional, and international forums, including membership in four technical working groups.
He holds a BA and MPhil in Health and Medical Geographies (TCIM) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, a PhD in Social Policy (Social Gerontology) from Lingnan University, Hong Kong, and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in aging research at APHRC.
