Forensic Medicine

 

Forensic medicine is a clinical specialty, the graduates of which by acquiring a set of intellectual, communicative, and practical skills and using the latest principles, and scientific methods will become able to express forensic related technical opinion, and provide expert consultations in cases if they are asked about by natural and legal peoples, including judicial courts, universities, and other authorities. They are also trained to diagnose and management poisoning and capable of responding to other specialists in legal fields.

 

 

Program Description: 

Forensic medicine is the study of the human body and mind contributing to the administration of justice. This specialized field was established in 1991 in IRI and the curriculum has not been formally revised since but it is now under revision. Complying with legal and judicial standards and views of Iran national health care system are among the characteristics of this curriculum. Since the judicial system of the country is based on the Islamic rules and laws and these rules are peculiar to our country, the forensic pathologists must scientifically and practically act in accordance with the needs of society and the legal context. Additionally, paying particular attention to the health care system needs and improving the quality of forensic medicine education and research are other characteristics of this curriculum.

They are also trained to diagnose and management poisoning and capable of responding to other specialists in legal fields.

Objectives:

At the end of the program learners will be competent in the following skills:
• Autopsy
• Intubation, mechanical ventilation
• CPR and patient resuscitation
• OGT and NGT placement
• WBI (Whole Bowel Irrigation)
• Central and peripheral vascular access
• Catheter placement

Duration:

The Forensic Medicine program lasts at least 3 years.

Admission Requirements

General Requirement: To apply for this program, you will need to fulfill a number of requirements, which can be found in the Graduate Admission Requirements.

Specific Requiremetns: Degree in General Physicians (M.D) or Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) by one of the Iranian or foreign universities.

The eligible candidate should have successfully completed an approved general physician program and should be proficient in English or Persian.

Admission Deadline

Tehran University of Medical Sciences has a rolling application system and reviews student applications all year round.

However, the deadline for the September intake is June 31.
