Pediatric Clinical Neurophysiology

Pediatric Clinical Neurophysiology is a clinical course which is subset of subspecialty of pediatric neurology and the graduates are engaged in diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of children with neurological disorders by measuring and interpreting the electromagnetic activities of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and muscles and provide the society with their knowledge and expertise in the areas of education, research, and health services.

Program Description

Pediatric clinical neurophysiology is a Training Program, dealing with how the electromagnetic activities of the nerve cells are created, transmitted and recorded in the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles due to the normal and abnormal activities of these tissues in fetuses, infants, children, and adolescents, up to adulthood (at the end of 18 years of age). At first, the content of this course was limited to the electroencephalographic study of children. Later, other electrodiagnostic procedures were also added to the scope of this course, such as electromyography, evoked cerebral and neural potentials, electroencephalographic video monitoring technologies, intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring, sleep neuropsychological examination in children, and magnetocephalography technology. Today, the accurate diagnosis of neurological diseases in children is possible through the content of this course and it is necessary to establish this course and train experts in this specialized area. 

 

Objective:

This program aims to train pediatric as well as adult neurologists to serve as academic and service staff in the epilepsy monitoring units dealing with pediatric patients with epilepsy. The main objective of this course is to train committed knowledgeable, professional, honest, and caring specialists to meet the needs of medical universities in the field of neurology.

 

Duration: 12 months 

Admission Requirements

General Requirement: To apply for this program, you will need to fulfill a number of requirements, which can be found in the Graduate Admission Requirements.

Specific Requiremetns: 

The graduates in adult and pediatric neurology who are faculty members of one of the medical universities of the country and have official specialty or subspecialty degree are permitted to enter this course.

The eligible candidate should have successfully completed an approved general pediatric or adult neurology program and should be proficient in English or Persian.

 

Admission Deadline

Tehran University of Medical Sciences has a rolling application system and reviews student applications all year round.

However, the deadline for the September intake is June 31 and for Febuary is October 31.
