Brief Overview 
 

Research Center for Rational Use of Drugs (RCRUD) was established and approved by the Council for the Development of Medical Science Universities (CDMSU) at the MOHME, Iran, in January 2011. The center has focused on conducting research projects based on real world's issues and is actively initiating collaborations with a variety of stakeholders including policy makers, insurance companies, healthcare providers, and pharmaceutical manufacturers. The main areas of research at RCRUD are Pharmcoepidemiology, Drug utilization studies, Pharmacovigilance and drug safety, Pharmaceutical Care and Patient education.

Message from Dean 
 
Medicines play a vital role in the healthcare. However, challenges ahead of their safe and optimal use should be detected and overcome. The goal of the Research Center for Rational Use of Drugs (RCRUD) which is affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences is to improve the safe and effective use of medicines. Our well positioned multi-disciplinary research team including clinical pharmacists, epidemiologists, physicians and health policy and public health experts tried to develop and formulate research project on different aspects of rational use of medicines and considered approaches to transfer the obtained results into practice. Any offer of assistance, partnership, or collaboration which could assist us to achieve our goal is warmly welcomed. We wish to express our sincere willingness to provide service to research centers, universities, and organizations with similar interests all around the world, specifically, countries in the region.

 

 

Mission 
 
The mission of RCRUD is to provide highquality and reliable scientific evidence on rational use of medicines at various levels including consumers, healthcare settings and national.

 

 

 Goals
 
  • To detect and determine research priorities to target rational use ofmedicines in national and regional level,
  • Monitoring and assessment of medicines use and its trends in the country,
  • To develop cost-effective approaches and interventions to improve rational use of medicines,
  • Conducting epidemiological and clinical studies to improve national health-care system,
  • To Provide scientific grounds for policy making and technical consultancy to policy makers and authorities in optimization of medicines use programs,
  • To encourage the partnership of the beneficiaries of rational use of medicines research including healthcare related organizations, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and international institutes,
  • To participate in education of trainees in the field of pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacovigilance,
  • To direct and promote relevant research activities, in terms of quantity and quality,
  • To facilitate academic exchanges and collaborations at national and international levels,
  • Incorporation of research findings into clinical practice through collaborations with healthcare centers considering processes to assure safer and more effective use of medicines,
  • To provide evidence-based information about safe and effective use of medicines for clinicians, patients, policymakers and the general public.

RCRUD vision is being the preeminent source of research on pharmacoepidemiology and phramcovigilance in the country and region.
