Consequences of Eliminating Preferential Currency for Medicines on the Health System

The Harmful Effects of Multi-Tiered Currency in the Health Sector and Emphasis on Continuing the Current Allocation of Currency for Medicines as Essential Goods

The detrimental effects of multi-tiered currency in the health sector and the emphasis on maintaining the current allocation of currency for medicines as essential goods, along with the efforts of the Ministry of Health and the Food and Drug Administration to sustain the current process, were among the key points highlighted by experts at the Good Governance in Health Think Tank meeting. Additionally, the necessity of anticipating supportive measures for both the public and the industry in the event of changes in the exchange rate was discussed.

The meeting titled "Consequences of Eliminating Preferential Currency for Medicines on the Pharmaceutical and Health System of the Country" was held on the evening of Tuesday, March 5, 2024, with the presence of Dr. Akbar Abdolahi-Asl, Director General of the Food and Drug Administration; Dr. Mohammad Reza Vaez Mahdavi, President of the Health Economics Association; and Dr. Abbas Kabirian-Zadeh, President of the Health Economics Federation.
