Highlights from Dr. Javad Rafinejad’s Keynote at the International Symposium on Climate Change & Health
At the International Symposium on Climate Change & Health, hosted by the Center of Excellence for Global Health (CEGH), Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) on May 28, 2025, Dr. Javad Rafinejad, Dean of the School of Public Health at TUMS, delivered a keynote emphasizing climate change as a critical global challenge. He addressed its profound impacts on health, migration, disease patterns, and ecosystems. Referencing annual estimates from the World Health Organization, Dr. Rafinejad highlighted the urgent need for actions such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting clean energy, and advancing public education.
He also underscored climate-related challenges specific to Iran, including drought, air pollution, and water resource management, stressing the importance of evidence-based policy-making and raising social awareness to mitigate climate change impacts.
