Meeting on the Evaluation of the Center of Excellence for Global Health’s Designation as a WHO Collaborating Centre with WHO Regional and Country Offices
Following the official introduction of the Center of Excellence for Global Health (CEGH) at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) to the World Health Organization (WHO)—nominated by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education of Iran for designation as a WHO Collaborating Centre in the field of Global Health Governance—a meeting was held to review the Center’s collaboration proposal. The session was attended by representatives from the WHO Regional and Country Offices, as well as the leadership and academic members of the Center of Excellence for Global Health.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Amirhossein Takian, Founding Director, Centre of Excellence for Global Health, presented a report on the process of developing and submitting the proposal, elaborating on the proposed areas of cooperation with WHO. He also introduced the Center’s extensive scientific, research, and international capacities.
During the session, participants acknowledged the strengths and capacities of the Center and offered recommendations to enhance the proposal. It was agreed that the revised version—entitled “Governance for Global Health”—would be submitted to the WHO Regional Office for further consideration.
It is noteworthy that the Center of Excellence for Global Health, affiliated with the Department of Global Health at the School of Public Health, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, has maintained more than a decade of continuous and broad collaboration with WHO and other international stakeholders. The Center has played a pivotal role in promoting good governance for health through evidence generation and advocacy based on scientific insights.
