Professional Biography:

Ronald C. Gorter (born in Baarn, The Netherlands, 1960), PhD, is a psychologist specialised in social dentistry. He earned his doctorate in Psychology at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands (1990), and is Associate Professor with the department of Social Dentistry at the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA).

For over two decades he teaches communication skills, health education, and behavioural aspects of working as a health professional to both dental students and graduated dentists. His research focuses on communication and career aspects of general dental practitioners, and more precisely on staff communication, work stress, burnout, and job satisfaction. His PhD thesis (2000) was called: “Burnout among dentists; identification and prevention”. Apart from his teaching, he is also active in educational and pedagogical developments in university teaching. He was director of education at ACTA 2013 – 2018. Among his international functions are: Executive Board member of the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE), member of the Platform for Better Oral Health in Europe, and Associate Editor of the European Journal for Dental Education. Dr Gorter is (co-)author of over eighty Dutch and international professional and scientific publications.

On May, 2019 Professor Gorter was presented with the TUMS Distinguished Visiting Professor title for the duration of 2019-2022 by Head of Community Oral Health Department, TUMS School of Dentistry.
