Appraise To Raise Group has held the fourth TUMS Online Journal Club on Sunday, June 14th 2020 at 12:00 PM (Tehran local time), 07:30 AM (GMT) with collaboration of Endodontics Department, School of Dentistry. According to Dr. Mohammad H. Nekoofar, Moderator of the session and Leader of Appraise To Raise Group, during these sessions an article entitled “Management of Deep Caries and the Exposed Pulp” published in International Endodontic Journal, 2019 was discussed.

Prof. Dr. Lars Bjørndal, the first author of the article and Associate Professor in the Department of Cariology and Endodontics, University of Copenhagen attended the session and answered the questions of the presenter and the audience.

Dr. Fatemeh Chitsaz, presenter of the session and resident of Endodontics Department explained that Caries prevalence remains high throughout the world, with the burden of disease increasingly affecting older and socially disadvantaged groups in Western cultures. Dental caries is a common, but preventable disease but if left untreated, caries will advance through dentine stimulating pulpitis and eventually pulp infection and necrosis; however, if conservatively managed, pulpal recovery occurs even in deep carious lesions.

As the discussion was fierce, attendees decided to have another session and continue the exchange of views. Therefore, the second online journal club was held on Sunday, June 28th 2020 at 12:00 PM (Tehran local time), 07:30 AM (GMT) to appraise the aforementioned article.

At the end of the second session, Prof. Dr. Lars Bjørndal was awarded a certificate of appreciation by TUMS.
