Dr. Guillermo Garcia

Dr. Guillermo Garcia-Manero is an internationally recognized leader in leukemia research. He is the Dr. Kenneth B. McCredie Chair in Clinical Leukemia Research and Vice Chairman of the Department of Leukemia at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he also leads the Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) Section and the MDS/AML Moon Shot Program.
Originally from Spain, Dr. Garcia-Manero trained in medicine at the University of Zaragoza and the Royal Free Hospital in London, before completing his residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center. Since joining MD Anderson in 1999, he has built one of the largest MDS programs worldwide, treating over 400 patients annually and leading more than 30 active clinical trials.
His groundbreaking research in MDS and AML has earned funding from the NIH, DoD, LLS, and CPRIT, among others. He has published over 1,000 manuscripts, with an H-index of 158 and more than 116,000 citations to his work. A dedicated mentor and educator, he has trained over 100 fellows and has been a featured speaker at major international conferences.
Dr. Garcia-Manero’s contributions have been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, and he has been named among the Best Doctors in America every year since 2007.
