"Facial restoration by the state-of-the-art technology developed at TUMS"
The surgery was performed on Tuesday October 24th, 2019, at Shariati Hospital. Dr. Mohammad Bayat, Head of the Advanced Craniomaxillofacial Research Center Surgery and his colleagues in a complex surgery, restored the face and the eyelid of a 33-year-old patient. During the surgery a 3D printer was used for the first time. This 3D printer had been designed at the research center for similar patients.
Dr. Bayat introduced the design of this atlas as an innovation and added: All stages of designing and manufacturing prosthetics, atlas design, 3D printer, navigation and navigator were made by Iranian specialists. This process was accomplished by a collaboration between the Craniomaxillofacial Research Center and School of Advanced Technologies in Medicine at TUMS and Digital Medicine Knowledge Company. In the mentioned research center, surgeons treat all types of maxillofacial malformations, traumas and cervical cancers through digital surgery by modern technologies.
