Fetal Cardiology and Echocardiography

Fetal echocardiography is evaluation of fetal cardiac function by ultrasound before birth and during pregnancy.

This course has been designed for pediatric cardiologists and perinatology fellowships and cover all relevant topics in the fetal heart monitoring during pregnancy including early diagnosis of structural malformations of the heart, use of pulsed and color Doppler in fetal heart diagnosis.

Program Description:

The program is a complete combination of all fields necessary for the fetal cardiology including basic knowledge, basic and semi advanced echocardiography and genetics /prenatalogy.

 

Objectives:

The applicant should be able to perform a standard, complete, complementary and conclusive fetal echocardiography.

 

Duration:  4 months  

Tuition Fee: 2500 US$

Admission Requirements

General Requirement: To apply for this program, you will need to fulfill a number of requirements, which can be found in the Graduate Admission Requirements.

Specific Requirement: 

Eligible applicants:

a. Pediatric cardiologists

b. Perinatology fellowships

The eligible candidate should have successfully completed an approved Pediatric Cardiology or Perinatology fellowship program and should be proficient in English or Persian.

Admission Deadline

Tehran University of Medical Sciences has a rolling application system and reviews student applications all year round.

The deadline for:

  • April 2020 intake is January 20
  • September 2020 intake is June 20.

Program Course:

The program is a complete combination of all fields necessary for the fetal cardiology including basic knowledge, basic and semi advanced echocardiography and genetics /prenatalogy.

The program is planned for total 4 months in fetal cardiology clinic including 1 month rotation in preventional genetic and erinatology clinics. 

All trainees should be able to perform a complete fetal echo cardiography individually at the end of the training program. All title should be learned by the trainees according to the curriculum.

Evaluation:

This includes two evaluations in mid and end pact of the program. All exams will be according to the curriculum of the program.

Patient and physician consolations should include and performed.

1- Cardiovascular development

2- Cardiac anatomy

3- Indications of fetal echocardiography

4- The examination of normal fetal heart: 2D, Doppler and color Doppler

5- Cardiac malposition's

6- Anomalies of the right heart

7- Anomalies of the left heart

8- Anomalies of great arteries

9- Cardiac tumors

10- Cardiac dysrhythmia

11- Cardiac function (abnormal function and heart failure)

12- Cardiac causes of hydrops fetalis

 

Method(s) of Instruction:    

The main method is face to face, hands-on method, real patient study.
