The School of Nutritional Sciences and Dietetics at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) is one of the leading academic centers in the region for education, research, and clinical practice in nutrition and food sciences.The school offers comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate programs and fosters interdisciplinary research aimed at addressing current nutritional and public health challenges.
Academic and research activities are organized through four major groups:
• The Clinical Nutrition Group focuses on medical nutrition therapy, obesity and metabolic disorders, nutrition support, sports nutrition, and nutritional management of chronic diseases.
• The Community Nutrition Group conducts research on public health nutrition, nutritional epidemiology, maternal and child nutrition, food security, health promotion, and nutrition-related policies.
• The Cellular and Molecular Nutrition Group investigates the biological mechanisms underlying nutrition and health, with particular emphasis on nutrigenomics, metabolic regulation, inflammation, oxidative stress, and the molecular basis of diet-related diseases.
• The Food Science and Technology Group is dedicated to food quality and safety, functional foods, food processing and preservation, food chemistry, food microbiology, and the development of innovative food products that contribute to human health.
The school maintains close collaborations with major teaching hospitals affiliated with TUMS, particularly Shariati Hospital and Sina Hospital. These partnerships provide valuable opportunities for clinical training, patient-centered nutrition care, translational research, and multidisciplinary collaborations. Through the integration of education, research, and clinical practice, the school continues to advance knowledge in nutritional sciences and contribute to improving health outcomes at national and.
