The goals of this course are to providing the participants with the knowledge and skills needed to perform clinical care to children and adolescents with sleep disorders. This short course provides an overview of this topic and the challenges involved for this population. The course is divided into two components the first part (common topics) and the second part (advanced topics).

Duration

14 hours

  • Basic: 6 hours- on Dec 3rd and 4th 2020
  • Advanced: 8 hours (To be Announced)

Basic Course

The first part will provide basic and common topics in pediatric sleep medicine and key areas in the management of sleep in children with disability.

  • Pathophysiology and diagnosis sleep disordered breathing in children
  • Morbidity associated with sleep disordered breathing
  • Treatment of sleep disordered breathing
  • Behavioral insomnia in children
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness in children
  • Hypoventilation syndromes
  • Parasomnia
  • How to differentiate parasomnia from  frontal lobe epilepsy

Advanced course

The second part of the course will cover the advance topics such as interpretation of polysomnography, specific considerations when undertaking non-invasive ventilation in children with disability. Movement disorders during sleep, case presentation, practical aspect of ventilation strategies of initiating and titrating therapy in this group of children and adolescents.

Target groups

Pediatric pulmonologist, pediatric neurologist, pediatrician, technologists, and other health professionals with interest in the management of infant, pediatric and adolescent sleep disorders

Certificate of Attendance

A jointly signed certificate would be issued upon completion of the course
