Introduction:
The pathologies in the head and neck tissues cover a wide range of lesions with varying etiologies and origins. These lesions vary from very common to very rare and including cyst and tumors arising from odontogenic tissues, epithelial pathologies, salivary gland pathologies and soft tissue tumors. Some of them such as radicular cyst is a routine part of the diagnostic workload for pathologists who report specimens from the head and neck region, but some of them despite characteristic histopathologic features, because of rarity can cause significant diagnosis difficulty for every one especially for non-specialists.
So, for a dentist who is familiar with the head and neck lesions, up-to-date knowledge about head and neck pathologies is mandatory.
Understanding this necessity, oral and maxillofacial pathology department of TUMS dental school, as the first department of oral and maxillofacial pathology in Iran has planned a short course of reviewing of head and neck lesions. This course provides a great chance for making the knowledge about odontogenic lesions of the jaws and gaining the required skills in histomorphologic diagnosis of these lesions when faced with the cases. This plan is also coverage of the latest advances in diagnosis and disease management.
Why TUMS:
TUMS Department of oral and maxillofacial pathology is the first department of oral and maxillofacial pathology in Iran and offers its services in a number of fields. Our department owns the largest collection of oral and maxillofacial lesions in Iran (more than 14,000 samples) including slides, paraffin-embedded blocks and clinical and para-clinical documents. This wide collection has a great potential for education and research.

Includes 4 days (13 hours) lecture and case presentation.
Certificate:
The certificate of the course is offered as “Head and Neck Lesions Course, 4 Day Theorical Program” to the applicant, after participation in at least 9 hours (from 13 hours). In the regards of the Certificate you may contact Educational Office via online_edu@tums.ac.ir.
Entrance Requirements:
The applicant should have DDS degree and at least 2 years of clinical work as a dentist.
The applicant with MSc of oral and maxillofacial pathology, oral and maxillofacial surgery and oral medicine can also enter the course.

- Become familiar with the odontogenic tumors.
- Become familiar with the lesions with epithelial origin.
- Become familiar with the squamous cell carcinoma and its principles in pathologic report.
- Become familiar with different subtype of odontogenic cysts and tumors.
- Become familiar with different subtype of salivary gland tumors.
- Become familiar with different subtype of soft tissue tumors.
- Learn how to prepare a suitable process on an incisional biopsy sample of squamous cell carcinoma samples.
- Learn how to differentiate between salivary gland tumors.
- Learn how to differentiate between soft tissue tumors.
- Become familiar with ancillary studies in diagnosis of salivary glands tumors.
- Become familiar with ancillary studies in diagnosis of soft tissue tumors.
