This morning, January 6, 2015, Tehran University of Medical Sciences held a Commendation Ceremony for Professors Teaching International Students.

This ceremony, hosting some distinguished guests from governmental organizations and a number of well-known TUMS professors, aimed to honor all the hard work and effort of TUMS members of the faculty who have been active in the admission and instruction of TUMS International Students. It started at 10 a.m. with a brief speech by the TUMS Vice-Chancellor for Global Strategies and International Affairs.

 

 

After Dr. Arabkheradmand’s speech, two student speakers, Godwin Gidigo Nutifafa from Ghana and Sulail Fatima Rajani from Pakistan, stepped on the stage to share a few words with the audience regarding their experience as an international student living in Iran and studying at TUMS.

 

 

 

Afterwards, TUMS Chancellor, Dr. Jafarian went on the stage and made a brief speech regarding the internationalization of higher education, its necessities, benefits and some of its strategies.

 

 

Graphic material regarding many different topics such as 2014 TUMS Photography Contest for International Students, TUMS professors, student tours etc. accompanied the speeches, making the environment lively and highly interesting.

 

Following Dr. Jafarian’s speech, two notable TUMS scholars, Dr. Abdollahi from TUMS Pharmaceutical Sciences Center and Dr. Abolhasani, from the Department of Anatomy, took the stage to share with the audience their thoughts and ideas. After these two professors, the distinguished guest of the event, Dr. Ziaei, Deputy Minister for Education, Ministry of Health and Medical Education, went on the stage, stressed the importance of internationalization at TUMS, and commented on the benefits of this concept.

 

 

Once the speeches finished, Dr. Ziaei was accompanied by Dr. Jafarian and Dr. Arabkheradmand to praise Dr. Shafiee, one of the most experienced TUMS faculty members, on behalf of all respected TUMS faculty members, honoring their work and achievements in international higher education.  

 

Next, the three winners of 2014 TUMS Photography Contest for International Students, as well as the top three stalls in the TUMS International Students Exhibition on TUMS International Day in 2014 were called to the stage one by one to receive their awards.

 

TUMS currently hosts more than 150 international students and, in order to mark this milestone, a cake was brought up on the stage and cut by Dr. Jafarian, Dr. Arabkheradmand, Dr. Ziaei, and Dr. Shafiee. At the end of the ceremony, the professors and students gathered on and around the stage to take a memorable group photo. The guests were later invited to visit the TUMS International Students Photo Gallery which was held at the adjacent hall.
