TUMS Chancellor, Dr. Jafarian, Meets Executive Vice-Chancellor of Indiana University

Dr. Jafarian, along with other TUMS officials, met with Dr. Nasser Paydar to discuss opportunities for international academic collaborations between Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Indiana University.

At a meeting on January 12, 2015, TUMS Chancellor, Dr. Jafarian, discussed the development of international research and educational collaborations with IUPUI's Executive Vice-Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Nasser Paydar, in TUMS Headquarters Conference Hall. Also present at this meeting were Dr. Arabkheradmand, TUMS Vice-Chancellor for Global Strategies and International Affairs, and Dr. Shabani, Director of International Affairs and Development.

 

To begin, Dr. Jafarian briefly introduced the university and acknowledged that TUMS is the largest and oldest university of the country and has achieved many milestones in Iran, and it is now directing its focus on the international dimension of higher education activities.

 

"Faculty exchange between universities of different countries, even for short periods of time, can provide the grounds for future mutual collaborations and exchange of experience," said Dr. Jafarian. He added that TUMS currently supports short-term sabbatical leaves of its faculty members. Dr. Jafarian also announced TUMS’s willingness for establishing international partnership with Indiana University and emphasized that there are many opportunities in different TUMS schools for such collaborations.

 

Afterwards, Dr. Paydar introduced Indiana University and announced his interest in future cooperation with TUMS schools of dentistry, public health, rehabilitation, and nursing and midwifery. "There are numerous opportunities for exchange of experiences between the two universities provided that the necessary conditions for cooperation are met," said Dr. Paydar.

 

Following the meeting, the two parties agreed to collaborate in the areas of student exchange, short-term programs, joint programs and joint research projects. Also visits to the facilities and capabilities of both Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Indiana University of America were warmly welcomed by both sides.
