On July 13, 2015, an awake craniotomy operation was performed successfully at Sina Hospital by Iranian Neurosurgeons, Neurologists, and Anesthesiologists on a young patient suffering from insular gliomas.

Dr. Jamshidi, neurosurgeon, Dr. Arami, neurologist, and Dr. Khajavi and Dr. Mohareri, anesthesiologists, performed the awake craniotomy operation at Sina Hospital, successfully removing a high-grade brain tumor from a young patient.

“This patient had an excellent outcome and woke up with no additional movements and gently started to answer our questions,” said Dr. Mohareri. “The patient was finally transferred to the ICU, fully alert with good hemodynamic and respiratory condition.”

According to Dr. Alimohammadi, a neurosurgeon in this medical team, the success of the awake craniotomy surgery was a result of excellent teamwork between multi-disciplinary departments, particularly neurosurgery, anesthesiology, and neurology.
