TUMS GSIA Celebrates Office of Consular Affairs' Establishment

The opening ceremony of TUMS Office of Consular Affairs was held on August 3, 2016, at TUMS Office of Vice-Chancellor for Global Strategies and International Affairs (GSIA). In the related meeting to this opening, Dr. Arabkheradmand, TUMS Vice-Chancellor for Global Strategies and International Affairs, presented a short description of GSIA activities. Dr. Hadj Jabbari, the General Director of Department of Non-Iranian Students, Student Affairs Office, Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, stated that the ministry’s Student Affairs Office is responsible for non-Iranian students’ affairs since their arrival, including scholarship requests, cultural issues, housing in dormitories and student tours. He also explained that the Office of Consular Affairs at TUMS is responsible for non-Iranian students’ visa affairs.

Obtaining a visa for international students can be a hurdle and a challenging issue both for students and university. However, the establishment of this office is a momentous action which facilitates the visa attainment process for incoming TUMS students. This can be considered as the initial step for development of collaborations between the university and the ministry. The two parties have expressed hope that the creation of this office can be a small, notable step toward the realization of comprehensive national policies and achievement of international higher education objectives.
