Tehran University of Medical Sciences rises 100 places in Shanghai World Ranking 2024

According to the international Public Relations of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS IPR), the Shanghai Ranking is one of the most prestigious global ranking systems, with results published annually by Shanghai Jiao Tong University. It ranks the top 1000 universities worldwide.

In the recently released 2024 Shanghai Global Ranking, 9 Iranian universities are among the top 1000 universities in the world. According to the 2024 results, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, ranked 401-500, not only secured the top position among Iranian universities in the Shanghai ranking but also climbed 100 places compared to its 2023 ranking.

Among Iranian universities, only Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Tarbiat Modares University improved their positions compared to the 2023 edition of the Shanghai ranking.

Shanghai is a reputable international ranking system. It uses four criteria: quality of education, quality of faculty, research output, and per capita performance, evaluated through six indicators. These indicators include the number of Nobel Prize or Fields Medal winners among alumni and faculty, the number of highly cited researchers, the number of articles published in Nature and Science, the number of articles indexed in expanded science and social science indices, and academic performance relative to the institution’s size.
