The book ‘Therapeutic Medicinal Plants in Traditional Persian Medicine’ by Iranian and international researchers has been published
According to the International Public Relations Office of Tehran University of Medical Sciences(TUMS IPR), School of Traditional Medicine, the book ‘Therapeutic Medicinal Plants in Traditional Persian Medicine’ was authored by 40 writers from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Shahid Beheshti University, Iran University of Medical Sciences, Army University of Medical Sciences, Shahed University, Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Babol University of Medical Sciences, Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences, Shahid Beheshti University, Philipps University of Marburg in Germany, and Long Island University in New York, USA. The book consists of 42 chapters and 326 pages.
The book is the result of two and a half years of work by this 40-member team, edited by Dr. Roja Rahimi, Professor of Traditional Pharmacy and Dean of the School of Traditional Medicine at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, and Dr. Roodabeh Bahramsoltani, Assistant Professor of Traditional Pharmacy and Vice Dean for International Affairs at the School of Traditional Medicine at Tehran University of Medical Sciences. It was published by CRC Press, Taylor and Francis.
The introduction of the book was written by Dr. Mohammad Hossein Ayati, Vice Chancellor for International Affairs and Associate Professor of the Traditional Medicine Department at the School of Traditional Medicine.
The first chapter of this book introduces the school of Traditional Persian Medicine, and the second chapter is dedicated to the history of the use of medicinal plants throughout the formation and expansion of Traditional Persian Medicine.
In the next 40 chapters, 40 of the most commonly used medicinal plants in Persian medicine are introduced in the form of monographs. Each monograph initially mentions the various names of the plants and their active ingredients, followed by a description of the therapeutic use of the plant based on Persian medicine sources.
Furthermore, modern evidence regarding the therapeutic effects of the plants based on recent studies and articles is presented in two sections: clinical evidence and preclinical evidence. The usage considerations for each plant, including side effects and interactions, safety during pregnancy and lactation, and recommended dosage based on recent studies, are also mentioned.
Each section of these monographs includes an image of the plant sample used in the pharmaceutical market. The cover images and plant samples for each chapter were prepared by Mehdi Keyhan, an audiovisual expert at the School of Traditional Medicine.
This book is dedicated to the late professors Dr. Gholamreza Amin and Dr. Abolghasem Soltani in recognition of their valuable contributions to the field of traditional medicinal plant research during their fruitful lives."
