The Eighth Parasitology Summer Course (VIII ParSCo) Will Be Held in Iran on June of 2020
The Eastern Mediterranean Region VIII Parasitology Summer Course, which will be held in Tehran and Isfahan on June 5-14, 2020, has been organized by the TUMS School of Public Health, the Iran Ministry of Health's Center for Infectious Diseases, the Institute of Pasteur of Iran, the European College of Parasitology, Bari University of Italy and the World Health Organization regional office aiming at increasing transboundary collaboration within EMRO and with young parasitologists from anywhere with the specific goal to promote the concept of One Health.
The curriculum has been designed and specifically tailored to the Eastern Mediterranean Region, and will be focusing on arthropod-borne parasites. “30-40% of the topics of the International Summer Course on Parasitology will be theoretical and 60-70% practical, and fifteen Iranian professors, mostly from TUMS, will be teaching in the International Summer Course of Parasitology. In addition, a group of European and South American professors will attend this scientific gathering”, said Dr. Takian, the Vice Dean for International Affairs of the TUMS School of Public Health.
This achievement mostly owes to the efforts of Dr. Gholamreza Molavi, a prominent member of the TUMS Department of Parasitology and Mycology, and his connections with academics at the University of Aldo Moro Bari, Italy.
The registration fee for participants is €1000; however, this fee will be waved for talented applicants from neighboring countries of Iran. Applicants may submit their application by January 15, 2020. Course applicants are requested to complete the provided registration form, include a CV, a motivation letter and a recent passport photo, and send them to the Organizing Committee at parscobari@gmail.com. Then, the applications will be assessed and the selection of participants will be made.
There will be 20 seats in the Eighth Parasitology Summer Course out of which ten seats are allocated to the applicants from Iran and neighboring countries and 10 others to the applicants from other countries in this Summer Course, and eventually the participants will be awarded a joint degree by TUMS and Bari University.
It is worth noting that a Memorandum of Understanding for the exchange of professors and students and for conducting joint research projects is to be signed between the two parties following the Summer Course.
