Extending Collaboration: Endocrine and Metabolism Research Institute as a WHO Collaborating Center for Diabetes and Osteoporosis Management
The Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Institute of Tehran University of Medical Sciences has been selected for the fifth consecutive term as a WHO Collaborating Center in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMRO)
The Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Institute, based on evaluations conducted by the World Health Organization, the Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Institute of Tehran University of Medical Sciences has been selected as a collaborating center of this organization in the field of education and research in diabetes and osteoporosis management for the fifth consecutive period, and this collaboration will continue until 2028.
Providing evidence to reduce the burden of diabetes and the health system’s response in providing comprehensive and effective services to individuals with diabetes, focusing on primary health care (PHC) level, as well as producing health evidence and data on osteoporosis in the Eastern Mediterranean region at the request and under the guidance of the World Health Organization, will be the two main pillars of this collaboration.
A WHO collaborating research center is an institution selected by this organization as part of an international collaborating network in support of the organization’s programs at the national, regional, and international levels. These centers act as supporters of WHO programs in health-related matters. Today, the number of these centers has reached 746 centers in more than 80 countries worldwide.
The World Health Organization has six regional offices, and Iran is located in the Eastern Mediterranean region. 22 countries are covered by the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office, and the office of this organization is located in Egypt (Cairo).
The selection of the Endocrinology and Metabolism Research Institute is due to the successful implementation of national and international activities in the field of education and research in the management of diabetes and osteoporosis and adherence to the standards and regulations of this organization in previous collaboration periods. This great honor indicates the continuous efforts of the researchers and specialists of this research institute to improve the health level of the community and also the prominent position of Iran in the field of medical and health research in diabetes and osteoporosis.
