First International Course: From Field to Identification Vectors of Malaria and Dengue Fever Held at TUMS
The Department of Vector Biology and Disease Control at the School of Public Health (SPH), Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), successfully organized the first international course, “From Field to Identification: Vectors of Malaria and Dengue Fever,” from November 26 to December 10, 2024. The course took place at the Bandar Abbas Health Research Station, under the financial support of the World Health Organization and the Health Deputy of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to Professor Mohammad Mehdi Sedaghat, the course manager, 21 technical staff and entomology experts from Afghanistan and Iran participated in this comprehensive training program.
The first week focused on the methods of field and laboratory studies and the identification of malaria vectors, with practical sessions conducted both in the field and laboratory settings. During the second week, participants received training on the field and laboratory methodologies for studying dengue fever vectors. A notable feature of the second week was the visit to Bandar Abbas city’s invasive Aedes surveillance program.
All participants successfully completed the program and received their course completion certificates.
The Department of Vector Biology and Disease Control is committed to hosting further international short-term training courses, aimed at enhancing the management and control of arthropod-borne diseases.
