The 6th Graduation Ceremony for International Students at Tehran University of Medical Sciences

The 6th Graduation Ceremony for International Students at Tehran University of Medical Sciences was held with the enthusiastic participation of over 60 international graduates. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Seyed Reza Raees Karami, the University's Chancellor, and Dr. Kourosh Jafarian, the University's Vice-Chancellor for International Affairs.

According to Sina Media, International Affairs Deputy of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, the ceremony took place on Wednesday, January 30th, 2025, at Darolfonoon Hall. Distinguished attendees included Dr. Seyed Farshad Allameh, Vice- Chancellor for Educational Affairs, Dr. Alireza Esteghamati, Dean of the School of Medicine, Dr. Seyed Mansour Getmiri, Head of the Alumni Relations Office, Dr. Yahya Dowlati, Celebrated Professor of the University, Dr. Mohammad Mahdi Taheri, vice-chancellor for education of the international campus, Dr. Jebrail Nasl Seraji, Advisor to the vice-chancellor for education of the international campus, as well as other deans, vice- chancellors, vice-deans, directors, and faculty members from various departments.

In his address, Dr. Seyed Reza Raees Karami, Chancellor of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, congratulated the international graduates, their families, and esteemed professors. Emphasizing the importance of knowledge acquisition, he stated, "We consider the coincidence of this ceremony with the great Eid al-Maba'at as a good omen. Imam Ali (PBUH) described knowledge as the light that enlightens the mind and said, whoever honors a scholar, undoubtedly honors their Lord."

He also referred to a hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), adding, "The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said, No charity is better than the spread of knowledge."

*The Aim of the Ceremony: Gratitude and Creating Lasting Memories

The Chancellor of the university considered the ceremony an opportunity to honor the tireless efforts of students and their professors. He remarked, "Today, we gather in an atmosphere filled with pride to appreciate your endeavors and plan for a brighter and more prominent future. Your success today is the result of the cooperation of your professors and your relentless perseverance."

Addressing the graduates, Dr. Dr. Raees Karami said, "Graduation does not mean severing ties with the university, friends, and professors. Rather, maintaining this connection will be a valuable asset. Utilize your knowledge in the right path and become a beneficial individual for your community."

He also emphasized the necessity of continuous knowledge and information enhancement, adding, "Always strive for learning and progress, fulfill your duties with commitment, and never forget the university where you studied."

In conclusion, Chancellor Raees Karami expressed his pleasure in attending the ceremony and hoped that the international graduates carry fond memories of their time studying and living in Iran. Following this, Dr. Jafarian, Vice-Chancellor for International Affairs, thanked all attendees for their presence and addressed the international graduates, stating, "It is a great honor that you have chosen Tehran University of Medical Sciences for your studies, and I hope you continue your academic journey at this university at higher levels."

He added, "After this ceremony, you will find yourselves as graduates of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, an institution recognized as a pioneering and modern university in Iran and the region."

Dr. Jafarian continued, "Some of you will return to your countries as doctors and others as graduates of bachelor's, master's, and fellowship programs. Know that your work is not yet complete; this is only a step in your life's journey."

He emphasized, "Your societies and the world at large need your energy, efforts, and creativity to achieve health, peace, friendship, and sustainable development goals."

Dr. Jafarian congratulated the international graduates and expressed gratitude to their families and professors who supported them along this path.

*Supporting the University in Nurturing Future Talents

Dr. Getmiri, Head of the Alumni Relations Office, also congratulated the graduates on this memorable day, stating, "The Alumni Relations Office strives to engage with all students from the beginning of their studies and maintain a cohesive relationship with them after graduation."

He added, "For international students who do not continue their studies at higher levels, the Alumni Relations Office will act as a bridge connecting them with the university after their graduation and return to their countries."

Dr. Getmiri introduced ways to stay connected with the office, including the website alumni.tums.ac.ir and the email tumsao@tums.ac.ir. He stated, "The Alumni Relations Office has established offices in faculties. Our domestic and international branches are active in provinces and countries with a high number of university graduates, and we aim to expand these branches."

He added, "The interaction between Iranian and international graduates with this office will help them improve, progress, and develop their knowledge, making them more beneficial to themselves, their countries, and the world at large."

Dr. Getmiri, quoting Dr. Yahya Dowlati, a distinguished professor, said, "The university where you studied is like your mother. I hope you maintain your connection and support this institution in nurturing future talents."

He also congratulated the parents of international graduates and emphasized their significant role in their children's academic success, adding, "The more successful you are in your academic journey and the more you help various segments of society, the happier and more satisfied your parents will be."

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Getmiri wished all graduates increasing success.

*Honoring Outstanding Graduates and Distinguished Professors

Following this, Dr. Jafarian, Dr. Allameh, Dr. Esteghamati, Dr. Getmiri, Dr. Dowlati, Dr. Taheri, and Dr. Nasl Seraji honored Dr. Maryam Nokhostin, Dr. Mojtaba Sedaghat, Dr. Elahe Baharvand, Dr. Behrad Tanbakuchi, Dr. Esmail Haririan, Dr. Ghorbangol Ashabi, Dr. Ghodratollah Panahi, and Dr. Mohammadreza Khami as the outstanding professors of international students.

Also, Ahmad Tareq, Ayesha Zafar, Hamid Nazari, Mohammad Fazel Datoo, Frimpong checknoris Abednnago, Shafquat Fatima, Gina Simai Mohammed, Azal Hadi Yakoob Al-Masoody, Samiullah Safi, and Jawid Shah Sarwari were recognized as the top international graduates.

In the next segment of the event, the symbolic graduation the “White Gown” ceremony was performed by Dr. Dowlati, a renowned professor, and Zana Khoda Shakur and Hoorah Shabib, international fellowship graduates, followed by the awarding of graduation certificates to the attending international students.

The ceremony concluded with the reading the “Letter of Oath”, cutting the graduation cake, and taking of commemorative photos.
