Signing of a Scientific Cooperation MoU between the Dental Research Center of Tehran University of Medical Sciences and the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad

According to the Public Relations Office of the Vice-Dean for International Affairs at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, this Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Thursday, April 24, 2025 (4 Ordibehesht 1404), during the visit of Dr. Mohammad Hossein Nokoufar, Director of International Relations and Head of the Dental Research Center at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, to Iraq. It was signed by him and Dr. Raghad Al-Hashemi, Dean of the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad.

The signing ceremony was held in an academic and respectful atmosphere, with warm and sincere hospitality from the University of Baghdad, reflecting the shared determination of both parties to expand sustainable scientific cooperation.

According to this MoU, the framework for scientific and educational cooperation includes the development of joint interdisciplinary research projects in the field of dentistry, exchange of faculty members, researchers, and educational resources, co-writing and joint publication of scientific articles and clinical studies, sharing of educational content and digital learning platforms, co-organization of conferences, symposia, and scientific workshops, and the design and implementation of joint postgraduate educational programs.

This cooperation is in line with the internationalization strategy of Tehran University of Medical Sciences to expand its global scientific network and enhance the level of education and research in the region. It also indicates the University of Baghdad’s commitment to the continuous improvement of educational quality and its scientific standing in the field of dentistry.

The validity period of the MoU is one year from April 24, 2025, and it may be extended by mutual agreement between the two institutions.

During this visit, Dr. Nokoufar was also appointed as an External Evaluator by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education to assess the structure, standards, and quality of postgraduate programs at the College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad. This evaluation is part of a new international plan by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education to enhance the level of education in the country’s universities.

Also, on Thursday, April 24, 2025, the Director of International Relations at TUMS participated in the International Dental Scientific Conference at the University of Baghdad and delivered a specialized lecture titled “Endo-Perio Lesions: From Pathogenesis to Predictable Outcomes,” which was widely welcomed by the participants.

During his stay at the University of Baghdad, he also participated in various academic and executive activities such as the meeting of the High Council of the College of Dentistry, the Scientific Committee of the Restorative–Prosthodontic–Endodontic Department, a specialized journal club, and a clinical case presentation session on full jaw reconstruction by PhD students.

It should be noted that last week, within the framework of the same national program, the Head of the Dental Research Center at TUMS also conducted an independent evaluation of the College of Dentistry at Al-Mustansiriyah University.
