Announcement 1:  Basic Sciences (Olum-e-Paye) Examination March 2026

 

The Basic Sciences (Olum-e-Paye) exam for international students will be held simultaneously at both Tehran and Kish campuses on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 09:00 AM (Tehran local time, GMT+4:30). This exam is mandatory for all medical and dentistry students.

Since the Basic Sciences exam is a national and central assessment, all eligible students must attend in person at a verified TUMS examination center. Students are advised to arrange their attendance well in advance.

Important:

  • If a student cannot attend the March 2026 exam, they must inform the Education Office in writing at least two weeks prior to the exam. This is to avoid failing the exam due to absence and to be eligible to participate in the next exam scheduled for September 2026, which is necessary for progressing to clinical phases.
  • Students who do not pass or do not participate in the Basic Sciences exam will not be eligible to advance to the next stages of their education (such as physiopathology or clinical phases).

Any update regards to the above-mentioned examination will be announced from ICTUMS educational website

  • All eligible international students wishing to participate must register their information online from Wednesday, Jan. 21 to Thursday, February 5, 2026 via the provided link.

Condition of Participation for March 2026
Basic Sciences Examination

Eligible Students are those who passed successfully Basic Sciences subjects (one general Subject can be kept for after the exam) and gained cGPA above 12. (Chapter two, article 11.)

Medical Students as the Basic Sciences Comprehensive examination will be held as a reform type, therefore the eligibility to attend the above-mentioned examination is passing all below courses (theory and practical) with mark 10 and above and totally gained cGPA above 12.

Note 1.

Those courses that are excluded from the Basic sciences examination (for MD, MBBS students Only) will be examined before the pre-internship phases.

 

Note 2.

Passing all courses of Basic sciences phases is required to enter the Physiopathology phase.

Dentistry Students the Basic Sciences Comprehensive examination will be held as before and all Basic Sciences subjects should be passed before the exam time registration (one general Subject can be kept for after the exam). Also, Dentistry students should pass 8 credits of clinical courses for Sept 2018 entry/ 10 credits of clinical courses for students who enrolled at TUMS before Sept 2018 entry and totally gained cGPA above 12. (Chapter two, article 11.)

Note 3.

For The General courses; Persian Language, General English, Physical Training 1 and Introduction to religion 1, all of them should be passed before the basic sciences examination.

However, for Physical Training 2, Divine Texts, contemporary History of Iran, Introduction to religion 2 and Divine ethics courses, only one of them can be kept for after Basic Sciences examination.

*Those medical students who are participating after their 4th term need to have 8.0 credits passed from the general courses. (including General English plus 5 credits from other courses)

Note 4.

If scores obtained in some courses that assigned by the student are not announced by the time of formal examination, the student will participate in the examination under conditions;

  • if the student fails in that course after the announcement of formal examination’s score or passes the course but the average does not reach 12, the result of formal examination will be considered null and void. The students with that condition should submit the commitment letter before the examination to the Edu office on February 05, 2026.

Note 5.

Participation in the formal examination of basic sciences is allowed up to three times and Participation on the following March 2026 examination will count as one of the student’s attempts for BS Comprehensive examination.

Note 6.

Medium of March 2026 examination is English Language for International students. In order to receive a Persian question pamphlet, students need to select the pamphlet type during the online pre- registration.
(It is necessary to keep an e-copy of your registration form for further procedure.)

Note 7.

Please notice that the March 2026 Basic Sciences Examination would be held by the Ministry of health and we only register the names of TUMS students who applied on time from the pre-registered.

Note 8.

Please be informed of the following important points regarding the upcoming final examinations for the September 2025 semester:

A Failed Subject from Previous Semesters:

Students who failed a subject in a previous semester should follow these instructions:

If the subject is NOT on the September 2025 exam schedule: You must submit a written application to the Education Office. It is your responsibility to follow up on your request until the exam is officially scheduled and announced.

If the subject IS on the September 2025 schedule: You request to take the exam alongside the current semester’s students. To do so, submit your application to the Education Office between February 1st and February 5th, 2026.

Important: Applications submitted after February 5th will not be considered.

The Education office of ICTUMS will review the eligibility of individuals to participate in the Basic Sciences Exam according to the following schedule:

  • A student is eligible to take the comprehensive exam if they have passed all courses selected for the September 2025 semester, have successfully completed all courses from previous semesters, have no remaining courses, and have a total GPA of more than 12.
  • If only one general course remains, as specified in note 3, the student remains eligible to participate in the comprehensive exam.
  • If the student needs to complete a specialized course, they previously failed (as outlined in note 8), but is expected to pass all courses in the September 2025 semester and has already passed all previous courses, they are still eligible to take the comprehensive exam.
  • If a student has not completed two or more courses from previous semesters in addition to the courses of the September 2025 semester, or has taken those courses but failed to pass them, then even if they pass all the courses in the September 2025 semester, they will not be eligible to participate in the March 2026 comprehensive exam.
  • Additionally, if a student, assuming they pass all courses in the September 2025 semester and have successfully completed previous semester courses, but is expected to have a total GPA of less than 12, they will not be considered for the March 2026 Basic Sciences Exam.
  • If students in this group participate in the March 2026 Basic Sciences Exam and pass, the decision outlined in note 4 will be taken into account.
