Success in the First Robotic Operation on an Animal at Sina Hospital

This robotic surgery was successfully performed in Sina Hospital on May 9, 2021 by Dr. Mohammad Talebpour, a specialist with fellowship in advanced laparoscopy. Dr. Talebpour stated in an interview that the robotic surgery device, which was used for this operation and provides the possibility of performing remote surgeries, has been made by the Department of Biomedical Engineering at TUMS.

He added that the version of the device used in this surgery has been optimized for about a year at Sina Hospital, and fortunately the first operation on the animal was performed successfully using this version. Dr. Talebpour noted: "If the Iran National Standards Organization approves the animal phase, we will soon enter the human phase of this surgery."

Dr. Talebpour concluded: "I would like to congratulate my colleagues in the fields of medical engineering and laparoscopy on this success. Soon, it will be possible to build this device on a larger scale, and certainly TUMS, with 30 years of experience in laparoscopy and more than 20 years of experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery, will have a significant share in this contribution.
