With the Appreciation of the Best International Graduates and Selected Professors of Non-Iranian Graduates, the Graduation Ceremony of the International Graduates of Tehran University of Medical Sciences was Held
According to TUMS public relations’ report, International Vice-Chancellor, at the ceremony which was held both in-person and online on Wednesday, September 27th 2023, at the university’s conference center hall, Dr. Mahmoud Ghazi Khansari, TUMS Director for Graduate Studies, Dr. Iraj Ragerdi Kashani, TUMS Vice-Chancellor for Basic Sciences and Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Seyed Mehdi Rezayat, Vice-Dean for Int’l Educational Affairs and Dr. Kausar Asna Ashari, Vice-Dean for Int’l Student & Cultural Affairs of TUMS Int’l Campus, Dr. Omid Aminian, Dr. Fatemeh Dibaji and Dr. Nafiseh Sadeghi, Heads of the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy of TUMS Int’l Campus, Dr. Enayat A. Shabani, Head of TUMS Int’l College, Dr. Peyman Aghaei Nesab, the Security Head of TUMS Int’l Vice-Chancellor, Members of TUMS Int’l Council, Members of TUMS Int’l Educational Council and a group of managers, deputies and officials of TUMS Vice-Chancellor and Int’l Campus and some professors and faculty members of the university were also present.

Dr. Ayati, International Vice-Chancellor of the university, while welcoming the graduates, professors and officials, congratulating the beginning of the week of unity and the birth of Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh) and Imam Jafar Sadiq (pbuh), started his speech by thanking the guests for their presence and congratulating them on their graduation.
He stated: “We praise you as TUMS graduates and scholars, who have accomplished this important task in your life with tireless efforts”.
He quoted a hadith from Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): “Whoever leaves his home in search of knowledge, the angels will spread their wings for them till they return back home”, addressing the international graduates, he clarified: “You studied at one of the fields of medical sciences, which is related to health and human life, and is one of the most important, sensitive and responsible fields in the world”.
Dr. Ayati said: “We are happy since you came to our country and selected our university to study in one of the best fields.”.
International Vice-Chancellor of the university, while referring to the history of Tehran University of Medical Sciences as the oldest university with a history of 170 years and the largest medical science education center in the region, said: “Our university in Iran is the largest medical university and of course, one of the best universities that benefits from the teaching advantages of the best professors in this field and the scientific advantages of large educational hospitals”.
Dr. Ayati congratulated the international graduates of the university for using the opportunity of their youth in order to acquire science and knowledge and stated: “Youth is an opportunity for a person because of its good physical and mental strength to learn a field and profession. This period is quickly lost, but with a correct diagnosis and timely goal setting, you have made the best use of these years and studied for your future and to be useful”.
While pointing to the efforts of the university and the International Vice-Chancellery to host Int’l students well, TUMS Int’l Vice-Chancellor added: “We did all our efforts to be a good host for you, however, I will use this opportunity to apology you because of any shortcomings or adversities you may be faced from other people outside the university; I hope that, generally speaking, the memory of your studies and staying in Iran and at TUMS was good”.
Stating that Tehran University of Medical Sciences is young in the field of accepting international students, he mentioned: "It is possible that some of our administrative processes were not satisfactory enough during your studies, and you faced problems that were our fault in some cases. And in some others though, the special conditions of the society and the country and the economic situation and sanctions caused problems for which we also apologize”.
At the end, Dr. Ayati wished health and success for graduates and said: “We hope you will not forget Iran, Tehran and Tehran University of Medical Sciences”.
One Thousand and 355 International Students Studied at the University and 683 Students Graduated
Then, as the next speaker of the ceremony, Dr. Rezayat, Vice-Dean for Int’l Educational Affairs, addressed the audience and said: “I am very happy to witness the efforts of you, your families, professors and my colleagues from different departments of the university in these auspicious days and in this ceremony. I congratulate you on this occasion”.
While pointing to the history and quality of TUMS as the largest, oldest and most high-quality university in the country, as well as the country’s most prestigious university in terms of admitting students, the Vice-Dean for Int’l Educational Affairs continued: “Studying in such a university requires hard working and seriousness, and you worked hard to reach at this stage of your education today”.
While expressing the importance of the role of students' families and professors, he said: “Naturally, without the support of your parents, you would not have been able to attend university and study; Therefore, you should be grateful to them and also to the worthy professors who provided you the opportunity to learn in this university in terms of education, research and technology”.
While expressing his hope for the reunion of international graduates to attend again and study at higher education levels at TUMS, Dr. Rezayat stated: “You are a member of the university family. You are expected no to cut off your connection with your university; Rather, share your experiences with your family and friends and encourage them to study at Tehran University of Medical Sciences”.
He then presented a report on the status of international students and graduates of the university and added: “Currently, 1,355 international students from 50 different nationalities are studying in 3 schools of the international campus and 10 schools of the university”.
Vice-Dean for Int’l Educational Affairs stated: “At present, School of Medicine with 742, the School of Dentistry with 276, the School of Pharmacy with 94, the School of Rehabilitation with 77, the School of Allied Medical Sciences with 52 and the School of Nursing and Midwifery with 43 students have the largest number of international students, and 71 students are also studying at Schools of Public Health, Nutritional Sciences & Dietetics, Advanced Technologies in Medicine and Iranian Medicine.
He added that in addition to undergraduate students, Tehran University of Medical Sciences has the possibility of accepting and training international students in all clinical fields and also in Specialty, Subspecialty and Fellowship levels, and currently we host 70 students in these programs.
He announced that the total number of international graduates of the university is 683 people from 36 countries.
Vice-Dean for Int’l Educational Affairs added: “Today, in this ceremony, we are hosting 74 international graduates of the university in the fields of General Doctorates (Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy), and in Master level from MPH, Optometry, and Medical Microbiology graduates from 12 nationalities.
At the end of his speech, while wishing health and success to the international graduates, Dr. Rezayat said: “Just as our national students who are important to us, you are also important to us, and just as we are proud of our Iranian students, TUMS international students are also a source of pride for us”.
In the continuation of the ceremony, with the presence of the international and educational Vice-Chancellors, Director for Graduate Studies, Vice-Chancellor for Basic Sciences and Postgraduate Studies, Director of Resource Development and Support Management, Vice-Deans for Int’l Educational Affairs, Vice-Deans for Int’l Student & Cultural Affairs, Head of the School of Medicine of the Int’l Campus, Secretary of TUMS Int’l Council and School of Medicine’s Vice-Dean for Int’l Affairs, honored Dr. Elahe Baharond Ahmadi, Dr. Monir Moradzadeh Khiavi, Dr. Mohsen Amini, Dr. Ibrahim Jafari Pouyan and Dr. Mahmoud Ghazi Khansari as the best professors of the international students of the university.
Then, letter of oath reading ceremony was performed by Dr. Mohammad Hossein Ayati and accompanied by graduates.
The celebration ended with the cutting of the graduation cake by Elaha Jalali, Secretary and Mohammad Omeer Tariq, the Executive Officer of the International Students’ Trade Union Council, represented by the graduates and with the presence of Vice-Chancellors, Managers and Professors of the university.
One of the notable points of this event was a live broadcast of the ceremony, from domestic and international virtual platforms for graduates’ families, welcoming more than 360 international audiences.
