TUMS Receives Certificate of Accreditation from the ASIC for the Years 2013 – 2017

Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) receives its accreditation certificate issued by the Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges and Universities (ASIC) for four years, 2013 to 2017 on May 1, 2013.

Coincided by Teachers Day in Iran, and in a large gathering of the Vice-chancellors, Deans of Schools, Heads of Research Centers and Hospital affiliated to the University, the Certification was handed by Professor John Wilson from ASIC to the care-taker of the University, Dr. Mohammadreza Mansouri.

 

 

Welcoming Professor Wilson, Dr. Mansouri said, “It is my pleasure to welcome you to Tehran University of Medical Sciences for TUMS accreditation ceremony, which is coincided with Teacher’s Day observation here in Iran. We are delighted to have you here in the event in its 34th annual celebration. Thank you for participating. We are honored to have Professor John Wilson from ASIC with us today”, he added.

 

On the importance of Teachers Day that is held in different part of the world, Dr. Mansouri said teaching was considered a sacred profession in Iran, as it was in many parts of the world, like China, Turkey, India, Russia, the USA, Thailand, Malaysia, etc., and the young and the old sustained an undying respect for those who strove so hard to increase their knowledge. Therefore, he said, teaching was a labor of love in Iran too and teachers could never be thanked enough for their selfless toil, or paid enough for that matter.

 

Before handing over the podium to the coordinator of the ceremony, Dr. Kheradman, he said “On behalf of TUMS Accreditation Committee, I would like to once again say, [Professor Wilson] you are welcome to TUMS. It’s a pleasure to see so many of you here”.

 

Later in the talk, Dr. Kheradmand, the Vice-chancellor for TUMS International Affairs, said accreditation and quality assurance were important international approvals for providing quality education by universities in international arenas. He said by relying on its rich history, and the efforts and perseverance of its faculty members in executing their responsibilities in research and education, TUMS has achieved this success”.

 

Saying that TUMS has been the first medical sciences university in the country to receive international accreditation, Dr. Kheradmand hoped other medical universities and even universities under the Ministry of Science could gain the credit.

 

He finally hoped the University could maintain its services according to international standards to bring about the institution’s presence in the international sphere and win honor for the country.

 

Dr. Ghasemi, the Manager of TUMS Accreditation Committee and International Relations Office, said the objectives of seeking the accreditation were to provide internationally standard education for TUMS students and admit greater number of international students.

 

Plaques of appreciation wer later given to the employees who had actively participated in the accreditation process by the care-taker of the University.
