TUMS & Kuwait University Initiate Academic Cooperation
A delegation from Kuwait University visited Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS), on 10 May 2014, signing an MoU and an agreement in order to start academic collaboration.
Abdullatif Al-Bader, President of Kuwait University, Firyal Bou-Rabee, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Basil Al- Nakib, Vice President for Health Sciences Center, Hussain Dashty, Professor of Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine, in companion with some other faculty members and officials of Kuwait University, visited Tehran Heart Center on 10 May 2014. During a meeting attended by the delegation at the Center, Dr. Haji Ghasemi, Head of Financial Affairs at Tehran Heart Center welcomed the guests and elaborated on history of the center. He also explained about educational programs and facilities of the center and its current activities.
Present in the meeting, Dr. Boroumand, Head of Pathology Department of the Heart Center also described the educational system of TUMS pathology students in details. Finding similarities between Iran and Kuwait educational system, Dr. Abdullatif Al-Bader expressed willingness to make progress through mutual collaboration. Paying a visit to various parts of the center such as Outpatient Clinic, Catheterization Lab, and CCU, the delegation departed for TUMS School of Dentistry. Vice Dean of International Affairs at the School of Dentistry, Dr. Khami greeted the guests and introduced the school briefly as the foremost dental school in the country. He also presented some slides, saying that the school is a treatment center as well as an educational one. Dr. Abdullatif Al-Bader considered establishing a closer association with academic institutions as the objective of their visit and afterwards the group visited different parts of the school including Oral Pathology Lab, Orthodontics sector, etc.
After the visits, Kuwait University delegation met TUMS Chancellor, Dr. Jafarian at the Chancellors` office. Dr. Arabkheradmand, Dr. Yunesian, Dr. Jalili, Vice Chancellors for Global Strategies and International Affairs, Research, and Education respectively and also Dr. Nekoofar, Director of International Relations, Accreditation and Ranking, and Dr. Shabani, Director of International Relations and Development took part in the meeting. Dr. Jafarian gave a comprehensive report about the university and asserted that there is a good capacity of research at TUMS specifically at School of Pharmacy, as 50% of the School faculty members are full professors. In conclusion, the Chancellor added that TUMS is open to receive international students.
Furthermore, Dr. Yunesian spoke of TUMS publications and journals saying that a significant number of TUMS articles are published by PubMed and ISI.
Eventually the two universities signed an agreement on scholarly exchange and collaboration and also a general MoU for further academic cooperation.
