The opening ceremony of the 2nd Summer School of Field Epidemiology at TUMS School of Public Health was held with the cooperation of the University of Hamburg and the German Institution of Bernhard Nocht.

This opening ceremony was held on Saturday, August 19th, 2017, at TUMS School of Public Health. Dr. Takian, the school’s Vice-Dean for International Affairs, stated: “This is the 2nd time we host this summer school as per the 5-year contract of the school with Bernhard-Nocht-Institut für Tropenmedizin (Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine) and Universität Hamburg (University of Hamburg) in order to implement programs related to the field of Public Health.”

He also added that last year, the School of Public Health and Bernhard Nocht Institute received a joint grant of 3 years from DAAD to hold the international school of Field Epidemiology with the aim of providing education revolving around the emerging and retrogressive diseases in Iran along with the principles of epidemiology.

This year’s participants are from 8 different countries, namely Germany, Austria, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afqanistan, Iraq, Ghana, and Canada. Also, 14 Iranian students, together with personnel from the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education, participate in this summer program. The group has 3 weeks ahead in Tehran and Hamedan, where they will have field studies. 10 Iranian professors along with and German peers collaborate on teaching and participation in field studies.
