First SATiM Ph.D. Student Defended His Research Proposal to Commence His Project

Amjad Hayat Khan, TUMS international student from Pakistan, is the first student introduced to the School of Advanced Technologies in Medicine for Ph.D. in Medical Biotechnology in 2013. He successfully defended his research proposal last month. He has passed his courses with distinction and submitted his research proposal under the supervision of Dr. Esmaeil Sadroddiny. The rationale of his research is the production of antibodies in Leishmania Expression System (LEXY) for therapeutic purposes. By utilizing such a system, the production of glycoproteins which is a difficult and laborious undertaking in bacterial, yeast and other expression systems, could be facilitated. Amjad Hayat Khan described his feelings about studying at TUMS, “Indeed, receiving scholarship from TUMS is a significant honor for me. It also constitutes the confirmation that my research is important and it will play a pivotal role in the biopharmaceuticals.” He added, “I am very thankful to all the faculty members of the Medical Biotechnology Department for their cooperation, guidance and affection.”
