TUMS Men Soccer Team Ready for Incoming Olympiad Games
The competition starts on Thursday, 23rd Mordad 1393 (14th August, 2014) and the host city is Tabriz. During the competition, Men’s soccer teams of all the Universities in Iran will be competing. Men’s soccer team of Tehran University of Medical Sciences began its preparations about a month ago in their attempt to defend its title. Training sessions have been held every Saturday, Monday and Wednesday at 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the training pitch of the university located at Farabi Eye Hospital, Qazvin Square.
The team’s coaches, Mehrdad Hefzifard and Fazel Rostamniya, started the day’s program with warm-up sessions. During the first sessions of training, warm-up activities were prolonged to ensure that all players were at a suitable condition to prevent any injuries. They went through the paces several times. The players sweated as they went through various training sessions. One could tell the mounting strain and pressure as each break was taken seriously by the players since that was the only period when they had the chance to have a little rest between sessions. As they went through their paces, the coaches kept reminding the players that they had a tall list of assignments ahead of them, and since there wasn’t much time available to train when the tournaments start, it was important they pushed themselves to their limits up until the tournament commences.
Many training sessions were geared at sharpening the skills and readiness of various positions, namely attack, midfield and defense. With every player bringing his A-game to get into shape. Much emphasis was put on finishing and securing a strong defense to ensure that the team keeps a clean sheet while netting the ball as many times as possible during the competition.
Among the players, two TUMS international students, namely, Abraham Assan and Emmanuel Adutwum, both from Ghana, took part in the team’s training sessions.
