TUMS Signs New MoU with University of Kufa

Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) and University of Kufa signed an MoU in line with initiating international, educational and research collaborations and having academic exchanges.

 

Dr. Nekoofar, Director of International Relations, Accreditation and Ranking at TUMS Office of Vice Chancellor for Global Strategies and International Affairs, accompanied by Dr. Khami, Vice Dean of TUMS School of Dentistry for international affairs, paid a visit to University of Kufa and met Prof. Akeel A. Yasseen, Chancellor of the university and Dr. Abbas Taher, Dean of School of Dentistry and also the person in charge of university international affairs in the 1st week of August. The two universities signed an MoU for mutual academic collaboration.

Invited by the University of Kufa, Dr. Nekoofar and Dr. Khami visited Schools of Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Medicine. Dr. Nekoofar expressed hopes for expanding mutual collaborations.

Chancellor of Kufa University also spoke of his willingness for mutual collaborations in the fields of medicine, dentistry, nursing and pharmacy and professor and student exchange, and asked for the possibility of visiting TUMS schools. 

Dean of School of Pharmacy at Kufa University called for establishment of knowledge based spin off companies in cooperation with TUMS and stated that Iraq is in need of producing medications due to the current shortages. Moreover, suggestion for having cooperation in producing herbal medications was brought up after TUMS officials visited museum of herbal medications. Moreover, officials at University of Kufa made requests for external examiners from TUMS and also for sending nursing students to TUMS, in order to have local nurses in the future.    

It is worth mentioning that this university was established in the holy city of Kufa in 1987, always being a pioneering force in Iraqi higher education. Today, the University of Kufa has over 20, 000 undergraduate and 2,500 postgraduate students for a University degree, and also over 1,500 faculty members.
