Cornea Observership
Program Description:
The Farabi Eye hospital Cornea Observership Program is an informal observational experience that enables participants to observe different clinical team members from the ophthalmology department (cornea ward). Participants will shadow Cornea ward Ophthalmologist, observe them in outpatient and inpatient clinical settings, and can attend ward meetings, patient rounds, morning reports, journal clubs and grand round lectures. Observerships are typically one to three months long and provide participants the opportunity to immerse in Farabi Cornea ward clinical programs, gain exposure to relevant techniques and technology, and build relationships with clinicians. Observers will receive a Certificate of Participation upon successful completion of the program.
Program Objectives:
• Develop medical and surgical skills by shadowing experienced ophthalmologists in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Observe the clinical approaches to diagnosing and treating corneal diseases, such as keratoconus, infectious keratitis, and corneal dystrophies.
• Observe various surgical procedures performed by cornea specialists, including penetrating keratoplasty, lamellar keratoplasty, cataract surgery and pterygium surgery.
• Observer will be able to observe host faculty in the clinical setting and attend lectures and meetings.
• The observer will be accompanied by an attending physician, fellow, resident, healthcare staff, or supervisor at all times when observing patients.
• Observer will not be able to perform or be involved in any patient care or research.
• Observer will not have access to Farabi Hospital’s patient record system, or TUMS email privileges
Who is eligible to apply?
All MD graduates with experience in ophthalmology, including ophthalmologists and ophthalmology residents.
Minimum education - MD graduates with experience in ophthalmology, including ophthalmologists and ophthalmology residents.
English Proficiency - To have the most productive educational and learning experience during observership, applicants must be proficient in English or Farsi.
