Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation Research Center
About the Center
The Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation Research Center is affiliated with the Research Institute for Oncology, Hematology and Cell Therapy of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). Its activities combine clinical, translational, epidemiological, laboratory, and health-policy research in hematologic malignancies and solid tumors. The center has a long history in hematology, oncology, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), with Iran's first bone marrow transplantation performed in 1990 at Dr. Shariati Hospital. The center was formally established as a research center in 1993 and has developed substantial clinical, laboratory, and research infrastructure. Its strategic priorities include improving cancer survival and quality of life, developing evidence-based diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, strengthening precision and targeted medicine, generating evidence for health policy, and translating research findings into technologies and clinical protocols.

Collaboration Opportunities
The center welcomes national and international collaboration in clinical, translational, laboratory, epidemiological, and health-policy research related to hematologic malignancies, solid tumors, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Potential areas include joint and multicenter research projects, development of integrated patient registries and biobanks, clinical studies and trials, precision and targeted medicine, technology development and commercialization, health-policy research, and educational activities. The center’s strategic plan also emphasizes systematic collaboration with universities, research centers, the pharmaceutical industry, the Ministry of Health, and international transplantation and cancer networks. Existing international scientific links include collaboration with EBMT, APBMT, and CIBMTR. Opportunities may also include researcher training, scientific workshops, fellowship activities, and joint development of national clinical guidelines and evidence-based protocols.

Selected Achievements
- The first bone marrow transplantation in Iran was performed in 1990, placing Iran among the early countries in the field of stem-cell-based treatment.
- The center was formally established in 1993 and has accumulated approximately 35 years of experience in bone marrow transplantation, hematologic malignancies, and solid tumors.
- The center is described by its strategic plan as one of the largest bone marrow transplantation centers in the world.
- It has access to Iran's largest transplant-patient database / HSCT Registry.
- It maintains active scientific collaboration with major international transplantation networks
Why Collaborate with Us?
The center combines extensive clinical experience in hematologic malignancies and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation with multidisciplinary research expertise and established laboratory and clinical infrastructure. Its access to a large transplant-patient database and specialized molecular, immunology, and pharmacogenetics laboratories provides valuable opportunities for real-world and translational research. The center also has established links with major international transplantation networks and is strategically developing integrated registries, clinical research capacity, biobanking, precision medicine, technology transfer, and multicenter studies. These strengths make it a strong potential partner for collaborative cancer and transplantation research.
