Program Description:
Epidemiology is a branch of health sciences which studies distribution and determinant factors of health-related states or events in specific populations and investigates application of these studies to fight with health hazards. The PhD students are expected to graduate with knowledge and skills in the fields of epidemiology in order to:
- develop the practical and theoretical aspects in their field
- carefully criticize studies as to scientific principles in research methods, data collection and analysis
- acquire skills to work in national health systems by relying on epidemiologic thought and knowledge, analysis and policy making ability, methods of applying research knowledge to planning and operational fields
This field is easily combined with other fields and there is an interaction between experts of this field and those of other fields. Practicing justice, law and systematic thinking; developing evidence; and decision-making based on evidence are its outstanding characteristics. The educational aim of this program is training competent individuals in education, research and health management areas.

- Stating the health related problems in a population and setting priorities
- Developing proposals for doing epidemiological studies
- Designing epidemiological studies
- Implementing epidemiological studies in fields
- Reporting epidemiological evalations.
Admission Requirements
General Requirement: To apply for this program, you will need to fulfill a number of requirements, which can be found in the Graduate Admission Requirements.
Specific Requiremetns: Holding a master's degree (MSc) in any health sciences field (like public health, nursing, midwifery …) received in Iran or abroad. The department encourages the graduates from schools of medicine (MD), dentistry (DD) and pharmacy (PharmD) to apply.
The eligible candidate should have successfully completed an approved related Degree program and should be proficient in English or Persian.
Admission Deadline
Tehran University of Medical Sciences has a rolling application system and reviews student applications all year round.
However, the deadline for the September intake is June 31.
