Program Description:
Anesthesiology is a branch of medicine in which the graduates will become competent in treatment and management (in specific distressing and life-threatening conditions), assessment, consultation, preparation of patients before anesthesia, general, regional or local, pain control and providing sedation, administration of anesthesia to patients during surgery/ obstetrical procedures and diagnostic-therapeutic measures, monitoring and maintaining the physiological balance of the patients before, during, and after surgery, caring and creating comfortable, safe, and satisfactory conditions for the patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic procedures with or without anesthesia, intensive care and vital support for critically ill patients, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, control of acute and chronic pain in the relevant educational field.

1. Arterial line insertion
2. CV line insertion
3. Double-lumen endotracheal tube insertion using Fiberscope
4. Fiberoptic bronchoscopy
5. Fiberoptic intubation
6. Spinal anesthesia
7. Epidural block (lumbar and thoracic area)
8. Caudal block
9. Upper and Lower extremity block
10. Bier’s block
11. Neonatal intubation
12. Adult intubation outside the operating room
13. Laryngeal mask airway (LMA) insertion and management
14. Pain management procedures
15. Childbirth without pain
16. (Transesophageal echocardiography) TEE
17. TPN
18. (Intraaortic balloon pump) IABP
19. Anesthesia outside the operating room, such as MRI and CT units, radiotherapy, radiology, and angiography wards, etc.
20. Anesthesia for Electro convulsive therapy (ECT)
21. Nasal intubation
22. Change ETT with and without tube changer
23. Non-invasive positive pressure ventilation
24. Bronchoscopy and bronchoalveolar lavage
25. Check intraabdominal pressure in ICU
26. Sonography for insertion of pleural catheter
27. LP and check of CSF Pressure
28. tracheostomy
29. Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
30. Awake intubation
31. Using sonography for blocks and arteriovenous access
Duration:
The Anesthesiology program lasts at least 4 years
Admission Requirements
General Requirement: To apply for this program, you will need to fulfill a number of requirements, which can be found in the Graduate Admission Requirements.
Specific Requiremetns: Degree in General Physicians (M.D) or Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) by one of the Iranian or foreign universities.
The eligible candidate should have successfully completed an approved general physician program and should be proficient in English or Persian.
Admission Deadline
Tehran University of Medical Sciences has a rolling application system and reviews student applications all year round.
However, the deadline for the September intake is June 31.
