Program Description:

Infection in transplant recipients and immunocompromised hosts, including patients with cancer and AIDS is one of the main issues in infectious diseases. After Islamic revolution there have been prominent developments in Different medical fields, such as organ and bone marrow transplants , which had made IRI one of the  of  the top   countries in  Middle East. Transplant and cancer patients with infectious diseases should be managed scientifically and accurately. The need to improve the specialists’ competencies in this regard is more crucial than ever in the country. To this end, a committee consisting of experts was established in 2009 to develop a national curriculum in this specialized field. After reviewing and holding several meetings, the committee developed the present curriculum, which was issued to the universities after legal procedures and approval. 

 

Definition

 

Infectious Diseases in Immunocompromised Hosts & Transplantation fellowship is a clinical course originated from the field of Infectious and Tropical Diseases. The graduates of this course are involved in the prevention, diagnosis, management and care of infectious diseases in transplant patients (bone marrow and solid organs), cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy, patients with congenital or acquired immunodeficiency, patients with autoimmune diseases, and patients receiving immunosuppressive drugs, and they will provide the society with their specialized services in the areas of education, research, and health services.

 

Objectives:

  1. To train knowledgeable, competent, and compassionate specialists engaged in prevention, diagnosis, management and care of transplant and immunocompromised patients with infectious diseases, and provide the society with their knowledge and skills in the areas of education, research, and health services.
  2. In the next 10 years, Iran will be among the top countries in the Middle East in the field of infectious diseases in immunocompromised, cancer, and transplant patients in terms of the quality of education and providing the society with health services and will have a good position in terms of science production in the Middle East.

 

Admission Requirements

General Requirement: To apply for this program, you will need to fulfill a number of requirements, which can be found in the Graduate Admission Requirements.

Specific Requiremetns:  Holding an M.D. or M.B.B.S. degree. Having and approved specialty in Infectious disease and  Subspecialty Pediatric Infectious Disease received in Iran or abroad.

The eligible candidate should have successfully completed an approved related Degree program and should be proficient in English or Persian.

Admission Deadline

Tehran University of Medical Sciences has a rolling application system and reviews student applications all year round.

However, the deadline for the September intake is June 31.
