Program Description:
Presence of congenital eye diseases such as corneal opacities induced by intrauterine infections like rubella, toxoplasmosis and CMV, or diseases induced by metabolic and neurological disorders, or lesions due to children’s growth and developmental disorders, and the differences in the nature of therapeutic approaches between children and adults ophthalmic diseases ,had made some ophthalmologists to concentrate their studies and experiences on children’s ophthalmic problems in the past decades. Pediatric ophthalmology has made considerable progress and has achieved significant accomplishments in the world so far.
Iran’s young population mandates a greater focus on children’s ophthalmic diseases. Therefore, strabismus fellowship training course was launched several years ago in Islamic Republic of Iran, and now have changed to a more comprehensive course titled “pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus”. This committee welcomes the valuable comments of the experts in this field and will use them in reviewing the curriculum.
Definition
Pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus course is a subset of ophthalmology which deals with prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment of refractive errors, amblyopia, strabismus, cataract (congenital and acquired), ptosis, glaucoma, ROP, corneal opacities, ophthalmic lesions in neurological and metabolic diseases and related tumors
Objectives:
1.To train knowledgeable, competent and committed professionals to provide services in the areas of prevention, diagnosis, treatment, education and research, in the field of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus.
2.To reach the highest international standards in the area of education and diagnostic-therapeutic services in the next 10 years and to become one of the top ranking in the region for research products.
Admission Requirements
General Requirement: To apply for this program, you will need to fulfill a number of requirements, which can be found in the Graduate Admission Requirements.
Specific Requiremetns: Holding an M.D. or M.B.B.S. degree. Having and approved Specialty in Ophthalmology, received in Iran or abroad
The eligible candidate should have successfully completed an approved related Degree program and should be proficient in English or Persian.
