Program Description: 

This one-year course is designed to extend knowledge and improve skills in prosthetic reconstruction of oral/maxillofacial defects.

 

Definition

Maxillofacial prosthetics is the branch of prosthodontics concerned with the restoration and/or replacement of stomatognathic and associated craniofacial structures by artificial substitutes. The ultimate goal is to improve the health, function, esthetics, and quality of life of patients with oral/facial defects.

 

Objectives:

The purpose of the TUMS maxillofacial fellowship program is to provide advanced training in the diagnosis and supportive treatment of patients with maxillofacial anomalies. Residents will have the opportunity to treat patients with severe oral and facial deformities from cancer, trauma, or congenital malformations. Clinical training includes prosthetic treatment of cleft palate patients, restoration of acquired oral and facial defects, and implant prosthodontics. Attendees are also allowed to work with radiotherapists and evaluate and maintain the oral and dental health of patients before, during, and after their radiation therapy. They also work with surgical disciplines in restoring a variety of defects including cranial and facial implants, surgical obturators, surgical splints, and other required prostheses.

Admission Requirements

General Requirement: To apply for this program, you will need to fulfill a number of requirements, which can be found in the Graduate Admission Requirements.

Specific Requiremetns:  

The applicant should have a specialty/MSc degree in Prosthodontics.

The eligible candidate should have successfully completed an approved general physician program and should be proficient in English or Persian.

Admission Deadline

Tehran University of Medical Sciences has a rolling application system and reviews student applications all year round.

However, the deadline for the September intake is June 31.
