Program Description:
Critical Care Medicine course is a multidisciplinary program, divided from Anesthesiology and Internal Medicine and its subspecialties.
Fellowships’ activities are diagnosis, care and treatment of a wide range of clinical problems in patients with severe life-threatening failures in their one or more organs.
fellowships are also responsible for ensuring, maintaining and improving the health of acute patients with multi-organ dysfunction during hospitalization, discharge or transfer or follow-up in the clinic with all-round care, support and management.
Objectives:
The curriculum is designed, the course of an 18-month training program, to produce clinical intensivists who excel in the diagnosis and care of patients with critical illnesses. Specifically, fellows will achieve the following experiences:
- Airway management: tracheal intubation, use of LMA and other supra-laryngeal devices, Tracheostomy and its management.
- Mastering the ventilation: how the ventilator works, modes of ventilation, scalars & loops, approach to different patient types, patient-ventilator asynchrony, weaning modes of mechanical ventilation, Alarms & Emergencies, bedside rounds & simulation training
- Ability to do essential bronchoscopy for critical care patients in ICU
- Advanced hemodynamic monitoring including rotation in several cardiac surgery ICU’s,
- Familiarity with ECMO, IABP, semi-invasive and invasive cardiac output monitoring and cardiac support devices.
- Insertion and management of central vein catheters and invasive arterial monitoring devices including intra-arterial catheter placement,
- Familiarity and work with CRRT, hemodialysis and insertion of hemodialysis catheters
- Management of various critical care illnesses that will be described in the following sections like:
- ARDS
- CAP in the ICU
- Cardiology includes basic aspects of echo in ICU
- Chest Imaging
- Endocrine
- Gastroenterology
- Infection Prevention
- Nephrology and Critical Care
- Neurology and Critical Care
- Nutrition and Critical Care
- Pulmonary Embolism
- Sedation and Delirium
- Sepsis
- Post cardiac surgery ICU management

Admission Requirements
General Requirement: To apply for this program, you will need to fulfill a number of requirements, which can be found in the Graduate Admission Requirements.
Specific Requiremetns:
Specialized diploma holders in the fields of Anesthesiology and Internal Medicine.
The eligible candidate should have successfully completed an approved general physician program and should be proficient in English or Persian.
Admission Deadline
Tehran University of Medical Sciences has a rolling application system and reviews student applications all year round.
However, the deadline for the September intake is June 31.
