Program Description: 

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is one of the specialty courses in dentistry, which deals with the diagnosis and surgical, non-surgical and adjunctive treatment of diseases, lesions, traumas, anomalies, esthetic defects and congenital and acquired functional defects of the soft and hard tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region. Graduates passing the specialty exams held by the authorities of the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education will be certified as oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

The aim of the curriculum is to train oral and maxillofacial surgeons who have achieved the global and national standards of knowledge levels, academic and clinical skills, beliefs and professional behaviors. In addition, the graduates are expected to offer high-quality preventive and diagnostic services and also offer educational and research services.

The specialty course of oral and maxillofacial surgery lasts 5 years and is a full-time course based on the guidelines of the Council for General and Specialty Dental Courses.

 

Objectives:

At the end of the program learners will be competent in the following skills:

  • Diagnose diseases, lesions, traumas, congenital defects, acquired infections, traumatic and developmental anomalies and benign and malignant neoplasms of the soft and hard tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region
  • Treat the above-mentioned conditions surgically and non-surgically
  • Reconstruct soft and hard tissues and carry out esthetic surgeries in the oral and maxillofacial region
  • Ability to carry out research and teach in the relevant field

Duration:

Duration of program is 5 years

Admission Requirements

General Requirement: To apply for this program, you will need to fulfill a number of requirements, which can be found in the Graduate Admission Requirements.

 

Specific Requiremetns: Degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S) by one of the Iranian or foreign universities.

The eligible candidate should have successfully completed an approved general physician program and should be proficient in English or Persian.

 

Admission Deadline

Tehran University of Medical Sciences has a rolling application system and reviews student applications all year round.

However, the deadline for the September intake is June 31.
